Yoga – A way of life

How yoga helps management students declutter their minds and make better decisions.

Yoga, as an activity, is defined as essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between the mind and the body. Globally there are about 300 million yoga practitioners, by a study conducted by Zippia. Yoga as we all know has multiple benefits including improving physical strength and mental stability. Here at Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Hyderabad we strongly believe in the physical and emotional aspects of your well-being just as much as we do about the academic performance.

This is why during our Induction program, we had one hour in the morning dedicated to a Guided Yoga and Meditation Session by Heartfulness Institute Team. It was one of the most calming and interesting experiences. We practiced breathing exercises, some asanas and poses, along with Sun Salutations – called Surya Namaskar. The induction week was hectic, with one activity or the other – that one hour during the wee hours of dawn helped us get through the whole day with the same zest and vigour. Being management students, our curriculum is designed in such a way that we get familiar with tasks, priorities, multitasking, deadlines. And while this becomes a part and parcel of our daily life, yoga helps us perform each of these tasks in an efficient manner without any of it getting overwhelming.

Moreover these yoga sessions in the morning were extremely essential in helping us get through the initial jitters and the overwhelming feeling that all of us were going through at the start of the MBA program. This is why, even after the induction program, we at SIBM-H continue to include and practice yoga in whichever way we can.

A big thank you goes out to the management team for organizing these sessions that went a long way in alleviating some of the concerns and fears the students had while simultaneously prepping us for the course to come in a major way.

Looking forward to a journey of mindfulness.
