Attending Symbiosis Institute of Business Management in Hyderabad is more than lectures, homework, and presentations; it’s also about breaking limits you never imagined passing and finding yourself in unexpected roles. I remember two such occasions: working backstage at the Symbi Talks event and being given the chance to anchor Amphichats 3.0. Despite their stark differences, both positions were equally fulfilling and taught me valuable lessons about presence, communication, and teamwork.
Anchoring Amphichats 3.0
Standing on stage, with a microphone, and facing an eager audience is an experience like no other. When I was asked to be an anchor for Amphichats 3.0, I knew it was my chance to step into the spotlight and embody the event’s energy. Anchoring is not just about speaking; it involves setting the tone, keeping the audience engaged, and ensuring smooth transitions between sessions.
At first, the thrill of addressing the crowd, introducing speakers, and maintaining momentum was nerve-wracking. However, once I found my rhythm, it felt natural. I realized that an anchor is not just a host but also a bridge between the audience and the event. Every smile, phrase, and moment on stage makes people feel connected. This experience was a significant confidence booster and reminded me that communication is as much about warmth as words.
Backstage at Symbi Talks
When Amphichats put me in the spotlight, Symbi Talks offered me a different but equally significant role—working behind the scenes. My responsibility was to attentively listen to each speaker’s presentation, capture the essence of their message, and quickly relay those notes to the anchors. This enabled them to send out personalized thank-you messages right after each talk.
Initially, it seemed like a minor detail, but I began to understand its significance as I continued. Every speaker deserves recognition for their unique narrative, and a thoughtful, personalized thank-you note tailored to what they just shared truly makes a difference. The challenge lay in listening carefully, summarizing effectively, and communicating it genuinely—all in real time, while the event was ongoing.
Being backstage also offered me a fresh perspective. It revealed that an event’s success isn’t solely about what unfolds on stage; it’s the numerous small contributions behind the scenes that ensure everything runs smoothly. From quick coordination with the anchors to managing last-minute adjustments, it was a real display of teamwork in action.
Lessons Learned
My experiences with both anchoring and providing backstage support have illustrated the dual aspects of event management. Onstage, I grasped the significance of presence, composure, and engaging with people. Meanwhile, backstage, I recognized the importance of keen observation, flexibility, and empowering others to shine.
These experiences reinforced the idea that leadership isn’t solely about taking center stage; it often involves helping others excel. Whether in the limelight or behind the scenes, every role is crucial, and each contribution enriches the overall experience.
Looking Back
As I look back on Amphichats 3.0 and Symbi Talks, I perceive more than just events—I see personal growth. I see myself embracing new challenges, learning to strike a balance between nervousness and confidence, and uncovering the immense joy of teamwork. These experiences have added depth to my MBA journey that classroom learning alone couldn’t provide: the nuances of communication, the beauty of collaboration, and the fulfillment that comes from knowing my role—whether significant or minor—made an impact.
