SIP Experience at Bharti Axa- A Glimpse into the Insurance World

My Summer Internship at Bharti AXA Life Insurance has been a journey filled with learning,
exposure, and practical insights into the life insurance sector. Over the past few days, I’ve had
the chance to explore not just the company’s operations, but also the customer psychology that
drives this industry.

Getting Started: Learning the Basics

The internship began with a structured induction led by Mr. Anand Iyer and Mr. Iqbal Singh,
where we were introduced to Bharti AXA’s product offerings, organizational structure, and our
role as marketing interns. We were assigned a quick research task on insurance products- an
engaging way to kickstart our learning and test how well we could analyze under time pressure.

We were also briefed on the core expectation: generating leads through our networks, not cold
calling- an approach that emphasized trust-based selling over push strategies.

Building a Foundation

The first week was focused on understanding the life insurance space, Bharti AXA’s
positioning, and preparing a group presentation on the company and its competitors. We were
grouped according to our specializations, which helped streamline learning and discussions.
Alongside, we received curated reading material on marketing in the insurance industry, giving
us a strong base to build on.

Technical issues on some days disrupted the flow, but we stayed proactive- coordinating
remotely and staying aligned on our goals.

Week Two: From Research to Real-World Strategy

Our second week shifted focus to strategy and creativity. We presented on “Life Insurance
Penetration in India”, addressing customer hesitations, awareness gaps, and behavioural
barriers. Post-feedback, we were encouraged to think bigger- design campaign ideas, create
billboards, and even explore short-form video content.

We were assigned two actual product portfolios- Wealth Pro Plan and Secure Insta Income
Plan- and were asked to come up with creative communication strategies. The idea was to
simulate real campaign planning and understand how marketing directly impacts perception
and engagement.

What I’ve Taken Away So Far:

  • A strong understanding of the insurance sector and Bharti AXA’s offerings
  • Exposure to customer behaviour and the challenges of product positioning
  • Hands-on learning through group projects and live campaign ideation
  • The importance of adaptability, teamwork, and creative thinking in marketing

These few days have been packed with valuable lessons that go beyond textbooks. The
mentorship, the freedom to ideate, and the opportunity to work on real-life products have made
this internship a truly enriching experience so far.
