College events are often remembered for the applause, the performances, and the photographs that flood our social media feeds. But every once in a while, an event leaves behind something far more meaningful, the courage to be heard.
Our recent Open Mic was one such evening.
As the lights dimmed and the audience settled in, the stage transformed into a space where stories found listeners, poems found emotions, and music found hearts willing to pause for a while. It wasn’t about perfection. It wasn’t about competition. It was about expression.
Students from different backgrounds stepped onto the stage carrying nothing but a microphone and a piece of themselves. Some spoke about dreams and ambition. Others shared poetry that echoed personal struggles, hope, nostalgia, and resilience. Every performance reminded us that creativity flourishes when people are given a safe space to be authentic.
Behind the scenes, the event was equally memorable. From planning the flow of the evening and coordinating participants to scripting, anchoring, and ensuring every performer felt welcomed, every member contributed to making the experience seamless. The preparation taught us that successful events are built not only on talent but also on teamwork, communication, and trust.
What made the evening special was the audience. Every clap, every cheer, and every moment of silence during a heartfelt performance reflected the culture we aspire to build, one where voices are encouraged rather than judged.
