When Campus Becomes a Universe – My MBA Life Beyond Classrooms

If someone asked me to describe MBA life in one word, I’d say unpredictable. No two days ever look the same. There are days filled with laughter, days that test your limits, and days that make you question all your life choices. But that’s exactly what makes this journey unforgettable. Every moment feels like a little story that you’ll cherish years later.

Friendships in an MBA hostel don’t grow slowly—they explode. You bond instantly over mess food trauma, mutual fear of quizzes, and the shared confusion of being an adult who’s still

figuring out life. My closest friends today started with someone asking, “Is this the right classroom?” on the first day. Now we share food, notes, jokes, stress, and every minor incident like it’s breaking news. These people become your family, whether you expected it or not.

Being part of the literary committee is the calm in the middle of the academic storm. In a world full of PowerPoints, deadlines, and corporate frameworks, LitCom becomes a breath of fresh air. It’s where I get to edit articles, plan events, explore creativity, and listen to people perform poems that give you goosebumps. It reminds me that even in a management course, art finds its way into life.

Specializing in HR adds another layer of meaning to the MBA journey. It’s not just studying theories; it’s understanding leadership, communication, culture, conflict, and emotions. Every case study feels like a peek into how humans shape organizations. Sometimes the discussions in class feel like therapy sessions—everyone analyzing behavior, decisions, and what motivates people. It strengthens your perspective not just academically but personally.

Being involved with the placement support activities teaches responsibility in a very real way. It’s not about confidential details but about helping create a smooth experience for everyone. It teaches organization, time management, and how to stay composed when everyone else is anxious. There’s a quiet pride in being able to support your batchmates and seniors during one of the most important phases of their MBA journey.

Hostel life, meanwhile, is a comedy show. The mess serves food that has the mystery of a suspense movie—you never know what you’re getting. The water heater works only when it feels like it. Laundry days test your negotiation skills. But these inconveniences, mixed with laughter and sarcasm, become memories you’ll look back on fondly.

My roommate is basically my unofficial guide to surviving the madness. She’s my gossip partner, comfort buddy, midnight snacking companion, and emotional shock absorber. Our conversations range from deep life lessons to “Do you think the dosa today was made by a new cook?” Having a roommate who becomes your safe space is one of the biggest blessings of hostel life.

Getting sick in the hostel is a different emotional experience altogether. No matter how strong you pretend to be, the moment you get a fever or throat pain, the first thought that hits is “I want to go home.” You miss your mother’s voice, home-cooked food, and the comfort of being cared for.

But your friends step in—someone brings meds, someone goes to get hot water, someone sits with you until you fall asleep. It’s not home, but it’s a warm imitation that keeps you going.

Campus life brings its own spark with events, fests, competitions, and workshops. There’s always something happening—sometimes too many things at once. But the excitement of participating, organizing, or simply cheering for your friends adds color to the routine. You feel alive, connected, and part of something bigger than yourself.

Exams unite the entire batch through mutual panic. Group studies become half-learning, half-therapy sessions. The night before the exam feels like a national emergency. Yet the moment it’s over, the sense of relief is unmatched. You walk out laughing about how you wrote things you weren’t sure about, and somehow, that’s comforting.

Despite the messiness—literal and metaphorical—MBA life is enriching. Being an HR student, part of the literary committee, and involved in placement support shapes you in ways you never expect. You learn patience, resilience, empathy, leadership, and the art of staying sane during chaos. And at the end of the day, when you sit with your friends sipping overly sweet tea from the canteen, you realize that this campus is not just a place. It’s a universe—one that teaches you, challenges you, comforts you, and prepares you for every tomorrow.
