Marketing Beyond the Classroom: How It Helps Me in Real Life

When I chose marketing as a subject, I thought it would mainly be about advertising and selling. Over time, I realized it goes much deeper—it helps me understand people, decisions, and everyday behavior.

Studying consumer behavior has made me more aware of why people buy what they buy, including myself. I now notice how discounts influence choices, how social media triggers needs, and how brands position themselves to stand out. This awareness has made me a more mindful and informed consumer.

Marketing has also improved my communication skills. Whether it’s a presentation, a group discussion, or expressing my ideas clearly, I’ve learnt to think from the audience’s perspective. Concepts like positioning and value proposition help me structure my thoughts and communicate more effectively.

Another major impact is critical observation. Ads, packaging, store layouts, and even Instagram content no longer feel random. I can see the strategy behind them, which helps me think analytically rather than emotionally.

Marketing has also taught me the importance of personal branding—how consistency, credibility, and values shape perception, not just for brands but for individuals too.

Most importantly, marketing has made me more people-centric and ethical. It reminds me that behind every strategy and sale is a human being, and creating value responsibly matters.

Overall, marketing isn’t just a subject I study—it’s a skill set that influences how I think, communicate, and interact with the world every day.
